Student Highlight: Danett Hernandez

Danett Hernandez has been rocking her art this year! Danett has been studying with Benjy since 2009 when she took her first acting class at the Denver Center for Performing Arts.

Danett was born and raised in Denver and is married to another BDS rockstar, Miles Wartes. Together they have a 2 ½ year old son, Sebastian, who has proven that the terrible 2’s are no myth. Miles and Sebastian are her constant inspiration as Sebastian keeps her on her toes and her husband Miles never lets her give up.

Today, we're excited to introduce you to BDS rockstar, James Crapes! James has been with Benjy Dobrin Studios since April 2011 and has been booking some coveted roles in our local theater community.

James hails from Fontana, California having moved to Denver at the age of 18 in 2004 and is grateful for the support of his sister, mother and his partner and rock of 8 years, Steve.

Congratulations to BDS rockstar Chris Schenk for an amazing year!

Born and raised in Colorado, he moved to Boulder to study which is where he's resided for the last 13 ½ years up until this past year.

“I began working at the University of Colorado just after I graduated and engaged with academia for many years. I ended up teaching an upper-division Computer Science elective class for 4 years and decided to get my masters degree in Computer Science and am also a published author.”

Originally from Putnam County New York, she’s lived in Boulder for the past five years and absolutely loves it!

Some of our students join BDS solely as a way to express themselves creatively. Their intention is to simply express themselves and unleash some of their creative energy. Pursuing an acting career isn’t even on their minds. A funny thing happens when you’re surrounded by success though, you start succeeding yourself.

Student Highlight: Alberto Ocampo

Alberto Ocampo is a BDS superstar! He’s recently been cast as the host for 11 Walmart commercials in Colorado Springs! What an amazing win! He was also cast as Uday Hussein in “Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo” written by Rajiv Joseph, a 2010 Pulitzer Prize finalist for Drama. The play ran through September at the Edge Theater in Lakewood, Colorado.

As usual, creativity isn’t limited to one area. Alberto has also been learning to play the guitar and is looking forward to using his new found skills in the future to further express his creativity.

Student Highlight: Andy Hankins

Andy Hankins keeps bringing in the wins! What a year for Andy, not only is he currently in several commercials including spots for Connect for Health Colorado, Dellenbach Cadillac and Furniture Row but he has also landed a feature role in the feature film “Estranged” due out next winter! He’s also wrapping up some projects which are in post production for the amazing students at the Colorado Film School. Those projects are “The Fantastic Finneas Frook”, “Crustacean” and “The S-Word”. ANDREW HUNTER NEVER STOPS!

BDS Student Andrew Hunter is an acting machine! Among his many wins this year, he was cast as Chance Gold in an informal staged reading of local playwright Jeffrey Neuman’s play, “Exit Strategies.”

The play is about Chance Gold who is a moderately successful playwright returning home for his father’s funeral only to be drawn into the explosive family dynamics he has spent the better part of his life trying to escape.

The reading is schedule for Tuesday, June 11th.
