Benjy Dobrin Studios

Student Highlight: Andrew Hunter

Posted on November 12, 2013

Denver Acting ClassesSome of our students join BDS solely as a way to express themselves creatively. Their intention is to simply express themselves and unleash some of their creative energy. Pursuing an acting career isn’t even on their minds. A funny thing happens when you’re surrounded by success though, you start succeeding yourself.

BDS student Andrew Hunter was one of those students that just needed a creative outlet but after seeing all the success our students were experiencing, he decided to start auditioning as well. Since making that decision, Andrew has been killing it!

Andrew hails from the great state of Louisiana and has lived in Denver with his partner Brian and their 2 dogs for the past 4 years. Prior to living in Denver, Andrew lived in the Dallas/Fort Worth area for 10 years where he was inspired by the theater community and caught the acting bug. Since then, he had been itching to pursue a creative outlet which is what he found at Benjy Dobrin Studios.

Andrew is a multi talented performer, having studied voice, tap dancing, in addition to performing in several choirs. He’s a musician, an artist, a singer and a dancer, a quadruple creative threat!

Acting has been his main creative outlet lately. “I enjoy exploring character’s lives which are different from my own and working to find connections between those characters and myself.”

Some of his favorite roles to date include playing Mr. Hutchinson in Equinox Theatre Company’s production of “A Night at Fawlty Towers” and Jon in the short film “On Such a Winter’s Day”

The next few months will be busy for Andrew having been hired as the stage manager for John Hand Theater’s production of “Witness for the Prosecution” while also playing two small roles as a policeman and the warden.

He will also be the assistant director for Firehouse Theater’s production of Douglas Post’s play “Earth and Sky” which will run February 22nd through March 21st, 2014 at the John Hand Theater.

Along with all that, he was also cast as Rick Johnson in a staged reading of local playwright G. Leigh Webster’s play “A Simple Case” which will run weekends beginning November 23rd through December 15th, 2013 at the John Hand Theater and also serves as a member of the board of directors for the Firehouse Theater Company.

“I’m so grateful I found Benjy Dobrin Studios, his classes have made all the difference for me. Before Benjy’s classes, I had taken a few acting classes and workshops but there was no process that I could take away and use consistently. After studying with Benjy, I am now able to use his actor’s checklist and confidently go into auditions. Since then, I’ve booked a commercial, a film and several theater productions. His classes have helped me sharpen my audition skills through his warm read process and I’m so grateful I am a part of this community. Also, not only is Benjy very supportive of his students, the entire Benjy Dobrin community supports each other with advice and encouragement.”

We look forward to seeing more wins from Andrew and seeing him on stage and on film.
